many policyholders choose lower cover levels to such an extent, that if an insurance claim had to be made in the future, the claim would not pay out the full replacement cost of the of lost, stolen or broken items... .

Recent losses in the insurance industry, coupled with complaints from policyholders living in floodplains about obtaining cover continued to appear in the media. Yet, with the imminent expiry of the Statement of Principles in July 2013, the insurance industry and the Government have still not resolved the issue of the affordability of home insurance policies for people living in floodplains....

We constantly get contacted by irate people seeking an alternative home insurance quote, because their existing insurance company has have recently sent their insurance renewal with a 30% price hike. Most people naturally cant understand and feel completely aggrieved that they should pay such a large increase - especially in times of austerity and for the same insurance product. As most of Britain worries about the threat of a major drought, many UK homeowners now face the threat of subsidence. It seems like only recently the main news topic of conversation was why homeowners cannot find adequate home insurance because they live on a floodplain. However, as record-breaking dry hot weather continues, it is likely to cause the foundations of more and more homes to shift and walls to crack....

Why are homeowners being regarded as 'lazy', merely because they stay with the same insurer from one year to the next. Getting alternative quotes and paperwork is enough to put off lots of would be switchers. Millions of policyholders are simply apathetic and cannot be bothered to switch home insurance companies.

We have all been there. Endlessly waiting in a call centre queue for someone to finally speak to us on the phone and sell us a home insurance policy. 'Your call is important to us', the delighted recorded message chirps. You are then subjected to a seemingly never ending list of irrelevant choices that frustrates us, when all we want is a knowledgeable insurance professional....

Whilst we can hopefully leave our work cares behind us, it is important that we remember to take care of our homes to ensure that we don't have any nasty surprises on our return. My own experience highlights the problem. We set off for our half term break and unbelievably, no sooner had our plane touched down than my son was on the phone telling me, we had a burst pipe.....

When it comes to home insurance, it is sometimes difficult to persuade a customer that they need to insure both their buildings and contents for their maximum replacement cost. “Why so?” is often the question. “I’m never going to claim that amount of money, the house isn’t going to burn down and if I’m burgled, thieves are never going to steal all of my contents”. Fair question?

There have been recent reports that laws are to change outlawing the practice of providing females with cheaper car insurance. So, what’s the story behind this? For a good many years some insurance companies have been providing females with a better deal, not because they are female and not because they have fewer accidents, statistics show that when they do have accidents, the amounts paid out in respect of the claims are less. Less money paid in claims, equals more profit for insurance companies and cheaper premiums....

Owners of holiday homes and second homes have been hit by 'technical' tax changes hidden in the budget. The tax changes may mean rents becoming more expensive for tenants and is fewer numbers of property investors entering the second home in holiday home markets. The tax changes relate to deferring capital gains tax payments or offsetting losses made on their property investment, against their personal income. Is this fair?...
